Completely Free Open Access
Can you help us (Rens and Herbert) to make a list of journals for which no fees have to be paid (not by authors, readers or universities/libraries/funders) and with a high enough quality you would want to publish your work in it.
So far we have found:
Journal of Open Psychology Data
If your paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to pay an Article Publication Charge (APC) of £350 to cover publications costs. This fee can normally be sourced from your funder or institution, and we recommend approaching them about this at the time of submission. You will be able to pay any amount from nothing to full charge, as we recognise that not all authors have access to funding, and we do not want fees to prevent the publication of worthy work. The editor and peer reviewers of the journal will not know what amount (if any) you have paid, and this will in no way influence whether your article is published or not.
Journal of Statistical Software
As a matter of principle, JSS charges no author fees or subscription fees. Our editors, reviewers, and programmers are volunteers.
Meta Psychology
All articles published in MP will be open access. One problem with some open access journals is that they charge high fees for authors to get their work published. This gives authors from rich countries with grants a competitive advantage. MP will not charge any fees.
Journal of Physiotherapy
No fee is payable by the author as publishing costs are covered by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
International Review of Social Psychology
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Authors of articles publishedremain the copyright holders and grant third parties the right to use, reproduce, and share the article according to the Creative Commons license agreement. All Article Processing Charges (APCs) are currently being paid for by ADRIPS (the “Association pour la Diffusion de la Recherche Internationale en Psychologie Sociale”). Authors will not be charged to publish in this journal.
Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology
The costs of publication for OA publishing are covered by an article processing charge (APC). For all papers published in the Journal, the APC will be waived for authors, and Open Access publication will be paid for by funding from the proprietor Beijing Normal University.
